April Update!

Good afternoon, Last week, all students concluded their hockey and safety and injury prevention units.  Kindergarten students learned about fire safety, school safety and sign safety; First grade students learned about bicycle safety, sign safety, and good touch vs. bad touch; Second graders reviewed safety signs and strangers; 3 rd graders worked a lot with safe vs. unsafe choices and strangers; 4 th grade explored online safety, water safety, and street safety; 5 th grade discussed basic first aid, scoliosis, and fire safety.  Many classes were able to end their safety unit with a scooter safety obstacle course where they demonstrated their knowledge of the safety signs.  Students did a great job navigating the course safely! Celtics Raffle (Jump Rope for Heart)

Good Morning! As part of the Jump Rope for Heart community service project, the Boston Celtics have also offered 4 complimentary tickets to any school that raised at least $1,500.   Since Parmenter raised over $5,000, we will receive the tickets!   Any student who raised money will be entered into a raffle drawing and two winners will be chosen.   Each winner will be given two tickets to the April 16 th Celtics game vs. the Washington Wizards and I will also send the Celtics contact information home with the winners in the event families would like to purchase additional tickets.   The raffle will be conducted as soon as we receive the tickets from the Celtics.   Thank you again for your participation in Jump Rope for Heart! Happy Spring!

This month, all students will begin their hockey units in PE and will begin safety and injury prevention in health.  In PE, students will work on dribbling, passing, shooting, and will even participate in a modified hockey game!  In health, K-2 students will learn about school safety, bike safety, water safety, and fire safety.  Students in grades 3-5 will explore online safety, first aid, water safety, and strangers.  In other news, our first graders will have two more creative movement lessons from our Dean College Dance Intern and fifth graders will be screened for scoliosis during the first week in April.   Nurse Richardson has already sent a letter home explaining the scoliosis screening, but if your healthcare provider has screened your child for scoliosis in the past year, then your child does not need to be screened again at school.   Happy Spring!

So proud of all of our Heart Heroes!!

Students in grades 3-5 recently completed our annual Jump Rope For Heart Community Service Project and I am SO PROUD of all of our heart heroes!   As a school, our goal was $2,500.   Not only did we meet our goal, we more than doubled it!!   We raised $5,329 for the American Heart Association!!   Thank you so much for participating and making a huge difference in the lives of others!!   I’ve included some pictures of our Jump Rope for Heart stations as well.   I hope everyone has a wonderful vacation!! Parachute Pictures

All grades are participating in parachute activities this week!  After various challenges, students in grades 3-5 identify whether the activity involved muscular strength, muscular endurance, or both, while students in grades K-2 are working on identifying muscles in their upper body.  I hope you enjoy the pictures! Jump Rope for Heart 2014

Next month, students in grades 3-5 are invited to participate in the “Jump Rope for Heart” community service project.  This project helps raise money for the American Heart Association’s (AHA) fight against heart and blood vessel diseases.  In addition to research, the AHA provides valuable information and resources to our community regarding cardiovascular health and the importance of leading a physically active lifestyle. During the week of February 10 th , students will be participating in a variety of jump rope activities in both physical education and health class.  If students wish to volunteer to raise funds, they will need permission.  Collection envelopes will be sent home during the week of January 20 th and family/friends can support participation by donating to the American Heart Association.  Participants may earn incentive gifts based on contributions.
