December Happenings...

Hello! For the remainder of December, students in K-5 will be participating in challenges and activities involving eye-hand coordination.  K-2 students will be focusing on self-tossing and underhand tossing, while students in 3-5 will be working on overhand throwing.  In health, students will start talking about disease control and prevention.  The topic for the younger students will be germs and preventing the spread of germs, while the older students will learn about the immune system and will see how their personal behavior (washing hands, wearing a seatbelt, getting enough sleep, etc.) impacts their health.  I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season!

Nutrition

All of the grades just completed their respective nutrition units.   The younger students learned about always healthy foods versus sometimes healthy foods and they were able to explore the food groups.   The older students were able to practice reading food labels and explored how much of each food group they should be aiming for daily.   For more information tailored specifically to your child, go to www.choosemyplate.gov .   There, you will find tools that: help you find healthy foods on a budget allow you to look up specific foods help you get personalized plans allow you to learn more about the food groups I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Expectations

Welcome to the Parmenter PE and Health Website!  I'm excited that I'll be able to share the latest happenings in PE and Health with you!  At the beginning of the year, I talked to students about the expectations I have for every class.  Students must wear sneakers on days that they have PE and Health because I always try to incorporate some sort of movement into every class they have!  Students are also expected to behave appropriately.  This includes being respectful, listening, and following the rules for the specific activity that we are doing. Effort is also something that I always look for.  I always emphasize that I am not looking for the best athletes, but for the students who try their best. "If you had fun, you won!"
