Jump Rope for Heart 2014

Next month, students in grades 3-5 are invited to participate in the “Jump Rope for Heart” community service project.  This project helps raise money for the American Heart Association’s (AHA) fight against heart and blood vessel diseases.  In addition to research, the AHA provides valuable information and resources to our community regarding cardiovascular health and the importance of leading a physically active lifestyle. 5th Grade Community Quilt

Students in the 5th grade recently created their piece of the community quilt!  This health lesson focused on communities and what we can do as community members to keep our community healthy.  We talked about respect, helping others, and accepting differences.  As you can see, students did a great job!

Happy New Year!

This month, all students in K-5 will begin their respective throwing and catching units in physical education and will begin mental health in health education.   Students in K-2 students will explore topics such as emotions, self-esteem, and the qualities of a good friend while students in grades 3-5 will learn about topics such as personal achievement, stress, and coping. I’m also excited to announce that starting on January 22 nd , students in grade 1 will be participating in a new unit that is partnered with Dean College.   A Dean College dance intern will be joining us for 6 weeks and students will have the opportunity to explore creative movement while also participating in team building activities.   I’m very excited about this new partnership and I look forward to sharing updates and pictures on my blog! Happy New Year!
