Next week, all students
will begin their fitness units in PE and health! Students in grades
3-5 will participate in the mile challenge, the sit and reach test
(flexibility), curl-up test (abdominal strength and endurance), and upper body
tests (flexed arm hang or pull-ups)! The main goal is improvement and we
will revisit these same challenges in the spring!
While I will make
every effort to give your child’s classroom teacher advance warning if the
class is running the mile that day in PE, sometimes it’s not possible. We will try to get out and participate in the
mile challenge on days that are nice, so keep an eye to the sky! It’s suggested that your child bring a water
bottle that day too.
Students in K-2 will
be introduced to modified physical fitness challenges and like students in
grades 3-5, will also have the chance to participate in the challenges once
again in the spring.
In health, all
students will work hard to understand and demonstrate our four major fitness
concepts: cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance,
and flexibility. At the end of October, see if your child can
explain them to you!
