January Update

This month, all students in K-5 will begin their mental health units.  K-2 students will work on identifying and coping with feelings, while students in grades 3-5 will work on identifying similarities/differences and various ways we can help our Parmenter community stay healthy.

In PE, students in grades 3-5 will begin their volleyball unit and will be able to participate in 2 modified volleyball games at the end of January!  In K-2, students will be participating in games from around the world and will learn facts about the countries as well!

I’m also excited to announce that our collaboration with Dean College will continue this year!  Starting the week of February 1st, Dean College Dance Interns will be joining us for 4 weeks (on Fridays for most of the day) to teach students creative movement and dance.

Finally, this month, I will be sending home Jump Rope for Heart packets with students in grades 3-5.  These students are invited to participate in the “Jump Rope for Heart” community service project.  This project helps raise money for the American Heart Association’s (AHA) fight against heart and blood vessel diseases.  In addition to research, the AHA provides valuable information and resources to our community regarding cardiovascular health and the importance of leading a physically active lifestyle.

During the week of February 8th, students will be participating in a variety of jump rope activities in both physical education and health class.  If students wish to volunteer to raise funds, they will need permission.  Collection envelopes will be sent home during the week of January 18th and family/friends can support participation by donating to the American Heart Association.  Participants may earn incentive gifts based on contributions.

Children should never go door to door seeking donations.  All checks must be made out to the American Heart Association and all cash should be consolidated into a check or money order.  The deadline for contributions will be Friday, February 12th.
