October Fitness Update

The school year is off to a great start!  Students from all grades showed great cooperation and respect during the month of September!  They also demonstrated inclusion and caring as we talked about bullying prevention in health.

This month, all students in K-5 will begin their Fitness units in both Physical Education and Health.
For students in 3-5, this means that they will be participating in the Fall Franklin Fitness Challenge (Mile, Curl-ups, Pull-ups and/or Flexed-Arm Hang, and Flexibility).  While these scores are just a baseline, it is a great way for students to see where their fitness levels are so that they are ready for the second round of testing in the spring!  We are also working hard at distinguishing between muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and cardiorespiratory endurance.

For students in K-2, this means a lot of movement exploration and locomotor movements.  In addition, we participate in a lot of stations and activities that help our bodies get stronger!
