Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

This month in physical education, we will be continuing our eye-hand coordination unit with various basketball-related challenges and activities!  In health, we will be beginning our mental health unit.  K-2 students will spend time identifying emotions and learning to resolve conflicts, while students in 3-5 will learn various ways to cope with emotions and to set goals.

Also this month and as in years past, students in grades 3-5 are invited to participate in the “Jump Rope for Heart” community service project.  This project helps raise money for the American Heart Association’s (AHA) fight against heart and blood vessel diseases.  In addition to research, the AHA provides valuable information and resources to our community regarding cardiovascular health and the importance of leading a physically active lifestyle.

During the week of February 13th, students will be participating in a variety of jump rope activities in both physical education and health class.  If students wish to volunteer to raise funds, he/she will need permission.  Collection envelopes will be sent home during the week of January 23rd and family/friends can support participation by donating to the American Heart Association.  Participants may earn incentive gifts based on contributions.

Children should never go door to door seeking donations.  All checks must be made out to the American Heart Association and all cash should be consolidated into a check or money order.  The deadline for contributions will be Friday, February 17th.

Thank you!
